Welcome to March! The row crop season is rapidly approaching with corn planting coming up later this month. Our planter is in the Ag Technology Building shop getting set up, and the corn crop plan is almost finished for the North Pivot field. This report will contain information related to planting, nutrient management, weed management, insect management, and harvest. The ABAC team would like to request any feedback from the project team regarding research on variable rate nitrogen application that could be applied to the 4D farm project.
The new drone dock from AirWyse was delivered to the DATA Farm building on Thursday. The drone dock will be installed once the pad and fence are constructed near the DATA Farm building. A request to the FAA for a beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) waiver is in progress to enable automated drone flights. This will allow preset missions to occur on a schedule without a pilot onsite monitoring or controlling the drone.
Operations: No operations planned next week due to weather forecast of rain this weekend through most of next week. The following week, 3/11-3/15, the cover crop in North Pivot will be terminated with herbicide pending weather conditions.
Water needs: None
Sensors: RealmFive system in shipment.
Other: Feedback needed from the project team regarding research on variable rate nitrogen application that could be applied to the 4D farm project.
