This week’s weather allowed the DATA Farm to continue drying out and warmer temperatures midweek increased growth of the cover crops. Last week’s nitrogen application to Front Field and South Pivot received 0.12 in of rain. Figure 1 below shows an NDVI Map of Front Field generated from a drone flight last Wednesday before the nitrogen application. Figure 2 shows an NDVI map of Front Field taken from a flight this Thursday which shows an increase in growth.
On Wednesday the last lime application was applied to North Pivot and South Pivot fields using ABAC’s variable rate spreader. A prescription was created in Ag Leader SMS using the soil test results and the UGA Soil Test Handbook Lime Table C. Figure 5 shows the prescription for North Pivot which received a total of 6 tons at rates of 0.75 t/ac (green area) and 0.50 t/ac (yellow area) while 5 acres (red area) did not require any lime application. South Pivot pH results ranged from 5.7 – 6 across the field so using the results and UGA’s lime table generated a single rate prescription as shown in Figure 6. A total of 5.5 tons of lime was applied across all 11 acres at a rate of 0.5 t/ac.
