The Digital, Data-Driven Demonstration Farm

Project Overview

Components

A three-part graphic showing the interactions between 4D farm components. Each component is a rounded puzzle piece. Together, the three components form a circle. The Data Management Hub piece is at the top of the graphic, the ABAC DATA farm is on the bottom right, and the Emerging Technology Development Sites shape is on the bottom left. The text "4D Farm" is in the center. Each puzzle piece interlocks with the two other pieces.

Emerging Technology Development Sites (ETDS)

Emerging technology development sites (ETDS) are University of Georgia, Clemson,  and Auburn research sites that are developing the next generation of climate- smart, circular economy and precision agriculture tools. Once these tools are tested and mature, they will be incorporated onto the DATA Farm as part of the management strategy.

Data Management Hub

The Data Management Hub is located in the Future Farmstead on the Northside of the NESPAL facility in Tifton. Real-time data will be streamed wirelessly from the ABAC Demonstration farm to help develop computer models that provide data-driven management assistance to farmers. The data management center will serve as a farm of the future office with cutting-edge data management and visualization tools that will be available on this website, when available.

ABAC DATA Farm

The ABAC DATA (Demonstrating Advanced Technology in Agriculture) farm is the site for demonstration of precision farming and climate-smart practices. Approximately 45 acres are under cultivation and another 45 acres in forest and wetlands. It will contain a rotation of corn, cotton and peanuts as well as winter grazing for beef cattle. A new onsite educational classroom and demonstration area will provide a location for traditional educational programs with additional hands-on training at the DATA farm site.
